Stress, Insomnia, Cognition & Happiness: Ashwagandha!

As if stress wasn’t bad enough on its own, it makes everything else worse too. Stress can negatively affect sleep, cognition and quality of life. But, as this new study shows, the herb ashwagandha can help all those at once.

This double-blind study gave either a placebo or 300mg of ashwagandha root extract (standardized for 15mg withanolides) to 125 healthy but stressed people for 90 days.

Ashwagandha relieved their stress. It reduced stress significantly more than the placebo. It also decreased cortisol, the stress hormone, significantly more than placebo.

Relieving the stress relieved everything else. Ashwagandha improved sleep significantly better than placebo, according to the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. It also significantly increased happiness on the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire. And, finally, ashwagandha improved cognition. It was significantly better than placebo for memory, learning and attention.

And just to relieve any further stress you might have, ashwagandha did all this safely.
