Preventing Gout Attacks

Gout is a very painful arthritic condition. Cherries have a long tradition of helping gout, but the little research there is on this natural aid is over half a century old. Until now. . . .

Researchers studied 633 people with gout. They found that, as expected, attacks were more likely when they ate large amounts of meat, drank alcohol or took diuretic medications. But they also found that there was a 35% lower risk of having a gout attack when they ate cherries. Taking a cherry extract was associated with an even greater 45% reduction in risk.
