Anthocyanins Help Heart

In volume 16.4 of The Natural Path, we discussed a number of studies that showed that flavonoids from foods like berries were good for diabetes, heart and cognition. Well, here’s another one. . . .

150 people with high cholesterol were given either 350mg of anthocyanins or a placebo twice a day for twenty-four weeks in a double-blind study. Compared to the placebo group, the group getting the anthocyanins had their bad LDL cholesterol go down by 10% and their good HDL cholesterol go up by 14%. Markers of inflammation were also significantly lower in the anthocyanin group.

Anthocyanins are flavanoid antioxidants found abundantly in foods like blueberries, blackberries, cranberries and raspberries.
