The Herb that Makes You Happy

Believe it or not, two new studies show that this beautiful herb can make you happy!
A very large body of research shows that the herb saffron is remarkable for treating depression. New research is suggesting that taking saffron can also make you happy.
The first double-blind study gave 30mg of saffron or a placebo to 67 postmenopausal women for a month. On the Oxford Happiness Inventory, score in the saffron group climbed significantly from 45.5 to 51.4. There was no increase in happiness in the placebo group (The Iranian Journal of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Infertility. June 2019;22(4):11-17).
The latest double-blind study gave a saffron tea made from 30mg of dried saffron stigma or a placebo tea to 72 postmenopausal women for 6 weeks. In the saffron group, scores on The Oxford Happiness Questionnaire climbed significantly from 42.93 to 61.58. Scores improved not at all in the placebo group. The difference between the two groups was significant (BMC Complement Med Ther. 2023;23:176).
