Simple Way to Prevent Autism. If You Knew, Would You Do It?

multivitamin during pregnancy prevents autism

There is a simple, safe, inexpensive way for pregnant women to reduce the risk of their baby developing autism. Want to know what it is?

This study was really big. It included 273,107 women and their babies. By the end of the study, all of the babies were now between 4 and 15 years of age. The question was whether taking multivitamins, folic acid or iron while pregnant had an influence on the number of children who developed autism spectrum disorders.

Though neither folic acid nor iron seemed to reduce the risk of autism, multivitamins did. While 0.48% of children whose mothers did not take a multi while pregnant developed autism spectrum disorder with intellectual disability, only 0.26% of he children whose mothers did take a multi did.

Curiously, while this study found a benefit for multivitamins but not for folic acid, previous studies have found that folic acid taken during pregnancy does reduce the risk of autism.
