Caraway Seeds: New Help for Weight Loss

When you think of caraway seeds, you’re more likely to think of rye bread than you are to think of herbal medicine. You’re certainly not going to think of weight loss. But it may be time to change your perception of the little caraway seed. . . .

A new triple-blind study asked seventy aerobically trained, but overweight or obese, women to take either a placebo or 30mL a day of a water based caraway seed extract. The study lasted for ninety days. Except for taking the caraway or the placebo, nothing changed: the women maintained their usual diet and exercise.

At the end of the ninety day study, the caraway group had significant reductions in appetite level compared to the placebo group. And while women in the placebo group had only small and insignificant reductions in waist and thigh circumference, the women in the caraway group lost 2.5 inches from their waist and 2.2 inches in thigh circumference: both significantly better than the placebo group.
