Whether it’s for high blood pressure or erectile dysfunction, this nutrient will make your blood flow. Hint: there’s tons of it in watermelon.

Watermelon is loaded in citrulline, which is also available in as a little-known supplement. Citrulline is an amino acid that is converted into arginine; arginine is converted into nitric oxide; nitric oxide dilates your blood vessels and improves blood flow.

The cool thing about supplementing citrulline instead of arginine is that it provides a more prolonged increase in levels of arginine.

Previous research has shown that citrulline can help a variety of conditions, including Alzheimer’s, fatigue and diabetes.

Recent research is also showing that, by increasing blood flow, it helps high blood pressure and erectile dysfunction.

Erectile Dysfunction
When citrulline increases arginine, it increases nitric oxide, dilates your blood vessels and improves blood flow to the erectile tissue, leading, according to several double-blind studies, to increased hardness of your erection and improved satisfaction with intercourse.

A single-blind study gave 24 men with mild ED a placebo for a one month and then 1.5g of citrulline for a month. Erection hardness scores improved in only 8.3% of men taking a placebo but in 50% of men taking citrulline. That is a significant difference (Urology. 2011 Jan;77(1):119-22).

High Blood Pressure
A systematic review and meta-analysis of 8 controlled studies found that citrulline significantly lowers systolic blood pressure. There was also a significant decrease in diastolic blood pressure when the dose of citrulline was over 6g a day (Avicenna J Phytomed. 2019 Jan-Feb;9(1): 10–20).

So, there’s a supplement you’ve never heard of for improved blood flow that helps everything from blood pressure to erectile dysfunction.
