The Probiotic-COVID Connection

If you’ve been exposed to COVID, taking probiotics may help prevent you from developing symptoms.
This double-blind study included 182 people who had been exposed to COVID in their household. For 28 days, one group was given a placebo, and one group was given the probiotic Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG.
Taking the probiotic significantly reduced the risk of developing symptoms compared to the placebo: 42.9% of the placebo group developed symptoms versus only 26.4% of the probiotic group. The probiotic group also took longer before being diagnosed with COVID.
This innovative study suggests that taking probiotics can reduce symptoms if you get COVID.
This is not the first evidence that probiotics can benefit people with COVID. A meta-analysis has shown that probiotics reduce the risk of dying from any cause by a significant 56% (Inflammopharmacology. 2023 Dec;31(6):3327-3332).
So, if you have been exposed to COVID or have COVID, supplementing probiotics may be a good idea.
