Wrinkles are a natural part of aging. They are the trails made by the experiences and memories of your life. They are the beauty that’s won from wisdom. But, if you want to take a few steps back, there are natural ways to reduce wrinkles. And here’s a new one.

Both aging and environmental and lifestyle factors can contribute to wrinkles. As in so many other conditions, free radical damage is largely responsible. The free radical damage can come from inside you if you smoke or your diet is unhealthy, and it can come from outside you from sun exposure and pollution. Wrinkles are also a normal part of aging: over time, collagen loses its ability to hold its shape and your skin loses its elasticity, and glands that secret moisturizing oils become exhausted.

Since free radical damage has been shown to be an important factor in wrinkles, it is not surprising that studies have shown that diets rich in antioxidants promote healthy skin appearance. One delicious part of your diet that is loaded in antioxidants is pomegranate.

So, this small double-blind study set out to see the effect of supplementing pomegranate extract on wrinkles.

Eighteen men and women were given either standardized pomegranate extract or placebo for 4 weeks. They were all between 25 and 55, and the average age was 40.

At the end of the 4 week study, the people in the pomegranate group had a significant decrease in facial wrinkles compared to the placebo group.

This small, short term study suggests that taking pomegranate extract can significantly reduce wrinkles and improve skin health. It also suggests that you can start young.
