Grow Old Smarter with Flaxseed Oil

A new study shows that flaxseed oil can improve executive function and cognition in healthy older adults. That’s important news.
Dementia is hard to cure. That makes it all the more important to prevent it. New research suggests that simply using flaxseed oil can help do just that.
The new study was double-blind and included 60 healthy adults between the ages of 65 and 80. For 12 weeks each of them was given either 3.7g a day flaxseed oil or a placebo.
On a verbal fluency score that measures executive function, there was significantly greater improvement in the flaxseed oil group. Executive function is a key factor in the ability to set goals, make plans, modify and adjust while performing actions and carry out the actions of everyday living. Improving it is one of the most crucial aspects of healthy aging for older adults. Improving cognitive function by improving verbal fluency and executive function is an important step in preventing Alzheimer’s.
