A New Use of Probiotics: Allergies

240 children with tickly, runny noses and nasal congestion from allergies to dust or mold were given either a placebo or a probiotic supplement for twelve weeks. . . .

The symptoms improved significantlymore in the probiotic group. Symptoms of red, itchy, watery eyes also improved in the kids who suffered from them as well. The kids on the probiotics also used less allergy medication.

The authors concluded that “the dramatic improvement in symptoms along with the decreased use of medications” suggest that probiotics “may be an important treatment” for your children’s allergies.
