BPA is Linked to Obesity in Kids

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical found in plastic bottles and canned foods. A study of 2,838 children between the ages of six and nineteen has now found that BPA is significantly associated with obesity in children and teenagers. . .

10.3% of the kids with the lowest levels of urinary BPA were obese, but 22.3% of the kids with the highest levels of BPA were obese.

Last year, researchers found that BPA was associated with obesity in adults (Environ Res 2011,doi:10.1016/j.envres.2011.05.014), and previous research has linked it to diabetes and heart disease (JAMA 2008;300:1303-10).
