This Herbal Mouthwash Beats Chlorhexidine

Gingivitis is a common gum disease that causes irritation, swelling, redness and bleeding. Chlorhexidine is a prescription mouthwash that kills the bacteria that grows in plaque and causes gingivitis. A new study shows that a simple herbal mouthwash does it better.
60 people with mild-to-moderate gingivitis were given either a 0.2% chlorhexidine mouthwash or a 0.25% lemongrass oil mouthwash. They were asked to swish their with their mouthwash in the morning and before bed for 21 days.
The lemongrass group had significantly better scores on the plaque index and on the gingiva index than the chlorhexidine group by the 14th and 21st days.
The study concludes that lemongrass oil mouthwash may be a good natural alternative to prescription chlorhexidine mouthwash.
