Urinary tract infections are way too common. 20% of all males will get at least one in their lifetime. Over 50% of females will. Urinary tract infections are also the most common bacterial infection in children. Antibiotics are becoming increasingly ineffective. A natural alternative that works would be helpful.

The problem is not just the urinary tract infection (UTI): it is that the infection is often recurring and that the conventional treatment, antibiotics, is becoming less useful. The bacteria that causes UTI’s is becoming increasingly antibiotic resistant. According to some research, antibiotic resistance has reached 90% for UTIs.

This new systematic review and meta-analysis included 20 controlled studies of 3091 people who were at risk for a UTI because of previous UTIs in the past year.

It found that cranberry juice lowered the risk of UTI by 54% compared to no treatment and by 27% compared to placebo.

It also found that cranberry significantly improved the number of people who were symptom free.

Importantly, the study also found that cranberry juice reduced antibiotic use by 59% compared to people who were untreated and by 49% compared to placebo.

This large study, once again, adds to the evidence that cranberry juice can help you prevent UTI’s, treat UTI’s and, importantly, cut down on antibiotic use, helping to prevent both the side effects of antibiotics and the growing problem of antibiotic resistance.
