Herbs Versus Drugs for COVID
When people with mild to moderate COVID were given either conventional treatment or this herbal treatment, the people on the herbal treatment got better faster.
A 16 week, unblinded study that looked at health care workers who were in a high risk setting compared the herb ashwagandha to the drug hydroxychloroquine for protection from COVID. 3.7% of the hydroxychloroquine group experienced symptomatic COVID, compared to only 1.3% of the ashwagandha group (Complement Ther Med. 2021 Nov;62:102768).
This new study combined ashwagandha with ginger to see how the herbal combo would do for treating COVID.
48 people with mild to moderate COVID were given either conventional treatment or 500mg of ashwagandha and 1g of ginger twice a day.
On day 7, 60% of the herbal group were symptom free and had negative PCR tests versus only 4.3% in the drug group. By day 15, the rate was 92% in the herb group versus 34.7% in the drug group. Both results are significantly better for the herbs.
After 7 days, 76% of the ashwagandha/ginger group had attained viral clearance versus 60.8% in the drug group, after 15 days the rate was 95.6% in the herb group and 95% in the drug group.
On average, the herb group took 6.9 days to recover while the drug group took a significantly longer 13 days. Symptom recovery was significantly faster in the herb group.
This study shows that a herbal combination of ashwagandha and ginger is able to remarkably decrease the viral load and resolve symptoms and cure COVID much faster than conventional treatment in people with mild to moderate COVID.
