pomegranate polyphenols help cognitive recovery after stroke

Is it possible that a simple supplement from a powerful fruit could help restore cognitive power after a stroke?

This double-blind study included 14 people who had suffered a stroke approximately two weeks earlier. Half of them were given a placebo, while the other half were given 1g of polyphenols derived from pomegranate twice a day of one week. The amount of polyphenol antioxidants in each pill was equivalent to drinking about 8 ounces of pomegranate juice.

The people who got the pomegranate polyphenols experienced more cognitive and functional improvement than the placebo group. They also ended up needing to spend less time in the hospital.

This study shows that if you, or someone you know, suffers a stroke, pomegranate polyphenols can help with brain function and functional skills recovery.
