Do You Suffer from Dry Mouth? Try this Natural Remedy!

Dry mouth can be anything from an annoyance that affects your quality of life to a major health problem. Either way, this natural remedy can help.
Xerostomia, or dry mouth, is commonly caused by medication or by radiation therapy for cancer. When you have xerostomia, your salivary glands don’t produce enough saliva to keep your mouth moist. That can lead to everything from more cavities to poor digestion to loss of ability to taste and difficulty swallowing.
A number of natural treatments can help, including mouthwash made from either ginger or aloe vera (Med Oral Patol Oral Cir Bucal. 2021 Jul 1;26(4):e408-e413) and supplementation with vitamins C and E (Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg 2016. Sep;155(3):423-30).
A new study adds Pycnogenal to the list. Pycnogenol is a standardized extract of pine bark. It is loaded an antioxidant proanthocyanidins.
The new study compared standard therapy to standard therapy plus Pycnogenol mouth spray. The dose of Pycnogenol was 60mg a day in 30 spurts, and the study lasted 2 weeks.
Salivary flow improved significantly with the herbal mouth spray compared to the standard therapy alone group. The group who used the Pycnogenol spray had signifcantly better dry mouth symptom scores and significantly fewer ulcerations.
This new preliminary study suggests the promise of pine bark extract mouth spray for people experiencing the discomfort of dry mouth.
