Ginger as Good as Drugs for Painful Period

Several studies have shown that ginger is effective for dysmenorrhoea, or painful period (Arch Gynecol Obstet 2015;291:1277-81; J Altern Complement Med 2009 Feb;15:129-32).

Now a new systematic review and meta-analysis has added to the evidence. . . .

This systematic review and meta-analysis included 6 controlled studies of ginger and painful periods. In 5 of the studies, the pain was moderate to severe. The dose of ginger powder ranged from 750mg-2,000mg a day.

Ginger was beneficial in all 6 studies and more effective than placebo and as effective as drugs.

The ginger was as safe as placebo.
