Herbal Help for Students with Anxiety and Stress
As exams wrap up, students don’t need to be reminded that school is stressful and causes anxiety. But calming help can come from the intriguing herb Rhodiola rosea. . . .
This study was randomized, but open-label. It included 81 college students with self-reported mild anxiety and stress. Half of them received no treatment, while the other half got 200mg of rhodiola root extract twice a day for 14 days.
After 14 days, the students who were taking rhodiola had a significant improvement in anxiety and stress compared to the control group. The rhodiola group also had significant improvement on anger, depression, confusion and total negative mood scales compared to the control group.
This study adds to the evidence that rhodiola helps anxiety, stress and mood. Earlier research has shown that rhodiola significantly improves anxiety in people with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (J Altern Complement Med 2008;14: 175-180).
