Plant Source Calcium from Algae Builds Bone

This interesting study tested the effect of a plant sourced calcium derived from algae on bone mineral density. The study lasted seven years and used the South American algae Lithothamniom superpositum with added magnesium, boron, strontium and vitamins D3, K2 and C. . . .

The study included 172 women. The enhanced algae source calcium increased bone mineral density by 1.04% a year and by 7.3% over the seven years. Normal age-related bone loss, according to the researchers, would be expected to be about 1% a year. That means the women in this study gained bone mineral density instead of losing it and that the total benefit was over 14%.
