Omega-3’s Help Quit Smoking
Brand new research suggests that supplementing omega-3 fatty acids can help you to quit smoking. . . .
The new study is a double-blind, placebo-controlled study. It gave either omega-3 fatty acids or a placebo to 48 smokers. The smokers had smoked for an average of 11 years and smoked an average 14 cigarettes a day.
After one month, the omega-3 supplements led to a significant decrease in smoking. The smokers who took the omega-3’s smoked, on average, 2 cigarettes less a day: that’s a significant 11% decrease in smoking just by taking omega-3’s. They also experienced a significant reduction in cravings for nicotine.
The placebo group experienced a significant decrease neither in smoking nor in nicotine cravings.
This is the first study to show that omega-3’s reduce nicotine cravings in smokers.
