FDA Refuses to Endorse Aspirin

Though the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) continues to endorse low dose aspirin for preventing recurrence of a stroke or heart attack for people who have already experienced one, it recently rejected Bayer’s request to change the labelling of Aspirin to market it for prevention in people who have never suffered a heart attack or stroke . . . .

The rejection says that “after carefully examining scientific data from major studies, FDA has concluded that the data do not support the use of aspirin as a preventive medication by people who have not had a heart attack, stroke or cardiovascular problems.” Though the FDA found no benefit, it did find the well-known risk of aspirin:”dangerous bleeding into the brain or stomach.”

As for people who have not had a heart attack or stroke but who are at high risk because of a family history or because they have other evidence of arterial disease, the FDA again said that “the clinical data do not show a benefit” in taking aspirin.

There are several safe and effective natural alternatives that thin the blood and prevent heart attack or stroke. Some of the most important ones are Ginkgo biloba, omega-3 essential fatty acids, bromelain, ginger, garlic, cayenne, B6 and niacin.
