Standard American Diet (SAD) Just Got Sadder

one in ten Americans eat recommended amount of fruit and vegetables

Oh, oh, America! The Center for Disease Control and Prevention says you’re not eating enough of the good stuff.

It is well established and, presumably, well known that eating lots of fruits and vegetables is good for preventing heart disease, cancer, diabetes. It is also important for building your brain, improving asthma and even making you happier.

So, it is scary to hear that the huge majority of Americans are still not eating nearly enough fruits and vegetables.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention just released its 2017 report. It included data from 441,456 adults. Shockingly, it found that only 12.2% of American adults eat the recommended amount of fruit, and an even more pathetic 9.3% eat the recommended amount of vegetables.

And their recommended amounts are not even hard to reach: 1.5-2 cups of fruit and 2-3 cups of vegetables per day.

This report is another reminder to make a point of eating healthy, including increasing the amount of fruit and vegetables in your diet.
