In this review of studies on zinc lozenges, none of the studies that used less than 75mg of zinc showed any benefit. But seven of the eight studies that used over 75mg found . . .  that zinc lozenges significantly shorten the duration of colds. The best form was zinc acetate, which shortened the cold by a full 42%. Other forms shortened colds by 20% (Open Respir Med J 2011;5:51-8).
