This meta-analysis of studies of vegetarians included 124,706 people. The huge study added to the evidence that vegetarians live longer, healthier lives. . . .  It found a 29% reduced rate of death from ischemic heart disease (a blockage in the arteries carrying blood to the heart) and an 18% reduced rate of cancer for vegetarians. It also found that vegetarians had a 9% lower rate of death from any cause during the studies (Ann Nutr Metab 2012;60:233-40).
