curcumin improves fatty liver, diabetes and heart health in overweight and obese people

Being overweight puts you at greater risk of type 2 diabetes and of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This versatile herb helps fight both. And more!

Curcumin has almost super powers over diabetes. And, as we discuss in this month’s issue of The Natural Path, several studies show its power over NAFLD too.

A new study gave 80 overweight people with blood sugar problems either a placebo or curcumin for 8 weeks.

The results were impressive and broad ranging.

Curcumin significantly improved fasting glucose, insulin resistance, waist circumference, blood pressure, HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, liver enzyme and fat in the liver compared to placebo. That means the curcumin helped their weight loss, their heart, their blood sugar and their liver. All of these changes are huge improvements for both diabetes and NAFLD.

This study also found that curcumin improves cortisol levels: this may be the first study to find that curcumin can lower cortisol in overweight people. This novel finding could be important because obesity and binge eating may be associated with elevated cortisol.

This is a potentially valuable study for overweight people who are at risk of diabetes of NAFLD, since curcumin is affordable, safe, and, apparently, very effective.
