dark chocolate improves vision

This novel randomized, single-blind study gave thirty people who had no eye disease either a dark chocolate bar or a milk chocolate bar and then tested their eyes 1.75 hours later.

The people who got the dark chocolate bar—with all the ingredients that make dark chocolate a super food—had significant improvement in small-letter contrast sensitivity as well as slight improvements in large-letter contrast sensitivity and visual acuity compared to the milk chocolate group. When all the test scores were combined, compared to eating milk chocolate, there was significant improvement after eating dark chocolate.

These are important real world measures of vision because visual acuity tells you how big something has to be before you are capable of seeing it and contrast sensitivity tells you how much something has to contrast with its background before you can see it.

This study suggests then that, at least as a short term effect, dark chocolate can improve your ability to see. Future research will have to see how long this beneficial effect actually lasts and what effect regularly eating dark chocolate would have.
