black seed (Nigella sativa) helps control asthma

Asthma can be debilitating. And the number of people struggling with it is exploding. Luckily, there are several natural treatments that can help prevent and manage asthma. Here’s an exciting new one.

Black seed (Nigella sativa) has been used traditionally for inflammatory conditions like asthma. And for good reason: black seed significantly reduces important markers of inflammation.

Black seed oil has been shown to have “remarkable” anti-inflammatory effects that help asthmatics control their symptoms. Ground black seed has also been shown to significantly improve Asthma Control Scores and peak expiratory flow, a measure of how well your lungs are exhaling air that is used to diagnose and measure asthma.

When all the research is put together, an impressive picture of black seed for asthma is formed. A recent meta-analysis found 4 controlled studies of black seed and asthma. Some studies were on kids and some were on adults; some used whole ground seeds and some used oil. When they were all put together, both Asthma Control Scores and forced expiratory volume (FEV1) were significantly better in the black seed group than in the placebo group.

So, the evidence continues to grow that black seed can improve control of asthma and improve quality of life.
