fennel cream helps sexual dysfunction and vaginal atrophy of menopause

Though hot flashes get all the media buzz, they are far from the only annoying symptom of menopause. Women suffer from many menopausal symptoms, including vaginal atrophy and the sexual dysfunction that comes with it. Well, this herbal cream can help.

Fennel is a gentle phytoestrogenic herb that has recently been shown to help menopause when it is taken internally.

Now a new study has shown that fennel helps when used externally too.

Sexual dysfunction is a common problem of menopause. Menopause can affect both libido and ability. Vaginal atrophy is a very common symptom of the decreasing estrogen of menopause. There is no longer enough estrogen to  produce the cells that line the vagina or to maintain moisture. This creates vaginal dryness and thinning that can make intercourse painful and unpleasant.

There are many natural answers to vaginal atrophy, including black cohosh and soy isoflavones. This new study has revealed another very safe way to treat the sexual dysfunction and vaginal atrophy of menopause.

Sixty postmenopausal women who were suffering from sexual dysfunction were given either a placebo cream or a fennel cream. The fennel in the cream was an 80% extract, and it made up 5% of the cream. The women applied 5g of one of the two vaginal creams every night for 8 weeks.

Total sexual function scores on the Female Sexual Function Index improved significantly more in the fennel group. Not only did the total score improve more, but every individual score on the scale improved significantly more with the fennel cream: sexual desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain. The fennel cream had beneficial effects on vaginal atrophy. It was also totally safe: there were no adverse events.

Fennel cream may just be the safe and simple answer you are looking for as an alternative to hormone therapies.
