probiotics improve seasonal allergy quality of life

Spring is finally on its way. But, for many people, enjoying the beautiful weather comes with sneezing, runny nose and itching eyes. But, there just may be a simple, new solution.

The seasonal allergies that come in with the spring often compromise people’s quality of life. But, could something as simple as taking probiotics bring that quality of life back to life?

This double-blind study compared a probiotic combination to a placebo in 173 people who suffered from seasonal allergies. The study measured each of the allergy sufferers on the Mini Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire (MRQLQ) and lasted for eight weeks.

The people who were taking the probiotics experienced significantly greater allergy-related quality of life than did the placebo group.

This study provides the second piece of evidence that probiotics help allergies. A 2012 study found that probiotics work dramatically better than placebo for relieving kids’ allergies to dust and mold.
