eating fruits and vegetables lowers your risk of breast cancer

There’s no doubt that eating more fruits and vegetables is good for you. But would that change in diet be powerful enough to protect you from breast cancer?

Several studies have shown that eating fruits and vegetables reduces your risk of breast cancer. In a just published study, researchers put together all the research to see it the benefit was really true.

The systematic review and meta-analysis compared women who eat the most fruits and vegetables to women who eat the least in all the studies they could find up to November 2020.

The results showed that women who eat the most fruits and vegetables had 9% lower risk of overall breast cancer and 12% lower risk of postmenopausal breast cancer when compared to women who ate the least. When looking at fruit alone, the risk dropped by 7% for overall breast cancer and postmenopausal breast cancer for the women who ate the most.

For estrogen-and-progesterone-receptor-positive breast cancer, the risk dropped by 11% in the women who ate the most fruits and vegetables; for estrogen-and-progesterone-receptor-negative breast cancer, the risk dropped by 26%. Women who ate the most vegetables had a 27% lower risk of estrogen-and-progesterone-receptor-negative breast cancer.

So, is eating more fruits and vegetables powerful enough to actually make a difference and protect you from breast cancer? Yes. Compared to women who eat the least, women who eat the most fruits and vegetables lower their risk of overall, postmenopausal, estrogen and progesterone positive and negative breast cancer.

There’s one more reason to enjoy plenty of delicious fruits and vegetables.
