Recent research has firmly established that organic food contains substantially more antioxidants and less pesticide than conventionally grown food. And now a new study shows what it means to your children to give them food with less pesticide. . . .
This study looked at forty children between the ages of three and six. The children ate conventionally grown foods part of the time and organically grown foods part of the time. The researchers tested to see how much pesticide residue was in their urine.
They found that residue from six pesticides and herbicides were lower in the children when they ate the organic diet. Residues were significantly lower for two commonly used types of pesticides and one herbicide.
This study lasted only sixteen days, showing that organic diets can very quickly lower the amount of pesticide that finds its way into your child's body. The researchers concluded that an organic diet is significantly associated with reduced urinary concentrations of some pesticides. So, feeding your family more organic food will reduce your child's exposure to some pesticides and herbicides.
