IV vitamin C reduces symptoms and treatment side effects in women with breast cancer

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. Conventional treatment commonly leads to side effects that cause quality of life to suffer, like nausea, vomiting, pain, exhaustion, insomnia and depression. But there may be safe, natural solutions.

Earlier research has shown that high dose IV vitamin C can improve quality of life in women undergoing treatment for breast cancer (J Korean Med Sci 2007 Feb;22(1):7-11; In Vivo Nov-Dec 2011;25(6):983-90; Personalized Med Universe 2012;1:49–53). This benefit is important not only for the improvement in quality of life it brings, but because decreases in quality of life can lead to discontinuation of treatment.

A new study has looked at the effects of 25g a week of IV vitamin C on the symptoms of the cancer and on the adverse events caused by the cancer treatment in 350 women with breast cancer.

At the end of the four week study, the women taking the vitamin C had significant improvement in nausea, loss of appetite, tumour pain, fatigue and insomnia. There was no improvement in the placebo group.
