chamomile and lavender essential oils improve depression, anxiety and stress in seniors

Mental health problems, like depression and anxiety, can diminish self-care and quality of life for seniors. There may be a safe, simple solution.

178 people who were 65 or older were given either chamomile essential oil, Spanish lavender essential oil or a placebo. Three drops of the essential oil were put on a cotton ball and pinned to their pillows as they slept for 30 nights.

There was a significant improvement in depression, anxiety and stress both immediately and after a month in the chamomile and lavender groups.

This study offers the promise of a safe, inexpensive easy to use aid to improving life for older adults.
