Rhodiola rosea helps men with premature ejaculation

Premature ejaculation is a very common problem. For many men, it happens some of the time; for some men, it happens most of the time. It is a frustrating problem for which solutions are few. But, now there may be safe, effective herbal help.

As many as 1 out of 3 men experience premature ejaculation at least some of the time. But some men experience it most of the time. If premature ejaculation happens all, or almost all, of the time since your first sexual experience, then it is classified as lifelong premature ejaculation.

There are pharmaceutical treatments for premature ejaculation; however, common and significant side effects lead many men to give up on them. The most common pharmaceutical treatments are SSRIs and topical anesthetics. To see if a natural treatment might offer a more acceptable alternative, researchers put the herb Rhodiola rosea to the test.

91 men with lifelong premature ejaculation took a rhodiola supplement for 90 days. The pill included 200mg of rhodiola combined with 10mg of zinc, 200mcg of folic acid and 50mcg of biotin. All of the men were between 18 and 45.

After 90 days, there was significant improvement in the time it took to ejaculate after penetration, in the Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool (PEDT) and in quality of life (SF-36). Ejaculation control improved in 55 of the men.

Unfortunately, the researchers did not include a placebo arm in this study.

Research on premature ejaculation is rare. For now, the best bet seems to be Rhodiola rosea. At least one earlier study also found a benefit for this intriguing herb. When 35 men who suffered from erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation or both took 150-200mg of Rhodiola for 3 months, 26 of them responded with substantially improved sexual function.
