A healthy diet makes your body healthier. So, it shouldn't be surprising that it also makes your brain healthier. . . .

Researchers set out to see if diet could influence your brain the way it influences the rest of your body, like your heart. They didn't look at any one particular food, but at diet in general. To do this, they followed 27,860 people from forty different countries who were at high risk of cardiovascular disease for 56 months. The more their diets included healthy foods like fruits, vegetables, nuts, soy and fish, the healthier the researchers counted it; the more it included unhealthy foods like red meat, the unhealthier they counted it.

The researchers found there was a lower risk of cognitive decline in the people who ate the healthier diet. The people in the top fifth for healthy diet had a 24% smaller risk of cognitive decline than the people in the worst fifth.

One more reason to eat your fruits and veggies and to cut out the meat.
