Drinking tea doesn’t just make you smarter, it reorganizes and tunes up your brain.
Several studies have shown that drinking tea, and especially green tea, decreases the risk of Alzheimer’s, dementia and mild cognitive impairment.
Now, for the first time, researchers have imaged the brains of people drinking tea and have discovered at least one of the ways it does it. Tea protects against age-related cognitive decline by actually better organizing your brain.
Thirty-six healthy people aged 60 or older underwent neuropsychological tests and MRIs. The imaging revealed that drinking tea improved brain structure: people who drank green tea, oolong tea, or black tea at least 4 times a week for about 25 years “had brain regions that were interconnected in a more efficient way.” Because the brain regions of tea drinkers are better connected, information processing is performed more efficiently. That means that tea drinkers actually have better built brains!
