antioxidant quercetin prevents free radical damage from exercise

Strenuous exercise challenges the body because it produces free radical damage and supresses the immune system. Quercetin is a powerful, but too little discussed, flavonoid with exceptionally powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant power. So, researchers designed an experiment to see if it could help the health of people who work out.

The study gave 14 men either a placebo or 500mg of quercetin twice a day for two weeks. When the men took the quercetin there was a significant reduction in free radical damage.

This means that quercetin can help athletes and people who exercise to better cope with the oxidative damage caused by strenuous exercise.
