allicin from garlic can improve recovery from COVID-19

It sounds so simple, but it may be true. A new study has shown that an active ingredient of garlic “could significantly improve and accelerate the healing process…of COVID-19.”

Allicin is an important active ingredient of garlic. 66 people were given either allicin or a placebo in a double-blind study. All of the people in the study had confirmed COVID-19. They were all given routine treatment, but while half added a placebo, half added 90mg/kg of allicin for two weeks.

The half who added the allicin had significantly greater improvement in cough, difficulty breathing (dyspnea) and muscle aches and pains (myalgia). Chest CT scans showed that significantly more people in the allicin group returned to normal.

This study suggests that allicin, an active ingredient in garlic, can significantly improve symptoms, lab and CT results in people with COVID-19.
