Sixty-five diabetics who were being treated by diet or with oral medications, but not with insulin, were given either a cinnamon extract or a placebo. . . .  The extract was the equivalent of taking 3g of cinnamon a day. The study lasted four months. Fasting blood glucose levels went down by 10% in the cinnamon group but not at all in the placebo group. An earlier study found that cinnamon significantly lowered glucose levels as well as total cholesterol, harmful LDL cholesterol and triglycerides (Diabetes Care 2003).
