curcumin helps asthma

The number of people suffering from asthma is increasing dramatically. So is the number of people dying of it. In some parts of North America, the number of children struggling with asthma is four times higher than a quarter century ago. World wide, around 334 million people are struggling with asthma.

Safe, effective help would be welcome.

Curcumin, the active ingredient in the herb turmeric, is very powerfully antiinflammatory and antioxidant. So, researchers wanted to see if curcumin could help people with asthma, since it is an inflammatory disease.

Sixty people were included in the study. All of them were on bronchodilators and all of them improved by 15% or more when they used them. Thirty of them continue to use them, but thirty of them added 500mg of curcumin twice a day. The study lasted thirty days.

The results showed that adding curcumin helped. The people in the curcumin group had improved airway obstruction shown by a significant improvement in forced expiratory volume.

This study found that curcumin is a safe, effective add on to treatment of asthma.
