combination of black seed and fenugreek helps overweight diabetics

Black seed and fenugreek are two powerful herbs. Fenugreek is a diabetes powerhouse, and black seed, among its many uses, improves weight, cholesterol, liver enzymes and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. So, what would happen if these two herbal superstars teamed up against diabetes and obesity? Let’s see.

Forty overweight people with type 2 diabetes were given a combination of black seed (Nigella sativa) and fenugreek for 12 weeks.

The two herbs led to all kinds of important improvements. In terms of addressing their weight problems, there was significant improvement in weight, body mass index, waist and hip circumference and central obesity. In terms of addressing their diabetes, there was significant improvement in HbA1c (the most important marker of long term diabetes and blood sugar control), fasting blood glucose, blood glucose after eating and average glucose over the 12 weeks. There was also significant improvement in total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, VLDL cholesterol and triglycerides.

As their HbA1c went down, they also had improvements in liver enzymes, systolic blood pressure, cardiovascular risk scores and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease scores.

This study offers black seed and fenugreek as a potential safe and effective aid to diabetes and obesity. The supplements were effective and safe and they did not interfere with diabetic medications.

The study was not blinded, so it awaits further confirmation. But, the combination is both safe and promising.
