hops extract helps depression, anxiety, stress in students

This one herb may help all three problems.

School can create a lot of anxiety and stress for students. Recently, we wrote about herbal help for the alarmingly high number of people who suffer simultaneously from both anxiety and depression (The Natural Path Vol. 20 No. 10). But, we wrote it too soon to know about this herb. New double-blind research shows that it may be a huge help to students suffering from depression, anxiety and stress.

The study included 36 healthy students over the age of 18 who all felt that they suffered from at least mild depression, anxiety and stress according to the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21.

Half of them were given a placebo, and half of them were given 400mg a day of hops dry extract. After 4 weeks, compared to the placebo, scores for anxiety, depression and stress all went down significantly in the hops group. The hops was also entirely safe, causing no adverse events.

Though hops has often been studied in combination with other herbs, this may be the first double-blind study to show that hops alone helps all of depression, anxiety and stress.
