B6 prevents nausea, headache, depression side effects of birth control pill

The birth control pill can cause a number of side effects. This safe, simple vitamin can help a number of them.

The birth control pill causes a number of side effects, including intermenstrual spotting, breast tenderness, nausea, weight gain, headaches, mood changes, missed periods and decreased libido. It is now known that the pill can even cause a significant loss of feelings of well-being. Side effects may be exacerbated by nutritional deficiencies.

But, when 1011 women in rural Cambodia who were on the birth control pill received either vitamin B6 supplements or just usual care, the vitamin B6 group had fewer side effects from the pill. Specifically, they and less nausea and loss of appetite, fewer headaches and less depression than women who did not get B6.
