vitamin D, multivitamin and omega-3 essential fatty acids prevent diabetes

Between 1999 and 2009, there was an unbelievable 70% increase in the number of people suffering from diabetes in Canada. But now Canadian researchers have discovered a new way to put a stop to this disturbing epidemic.

In the first stage of the study, everyone was given enough vitamin D to reach a target blood level of vitamin D. In the second stage, they kept taking that amount of vitamin D but also added a multivitamin and omega-3 essential fatty acids.

Taking the vitamin D, the multi and the omega-3 EFA’s significantly lowered levels of HbA1c. This reduction is very important, since HbA1c is the most important marker of long term diabetes and blood sugar control.

After a year, while 16% of people with normal blood sugar who were not getting the multi and omega-3 progressed to prediabetes or diabetes, only half that many—8%--did in the multi/omega-3 group. Conversely, 44% of prediabetics who got the multi and omega-3 returned to normal blood sugar levels compared to only 8% in the group didn’t get them.

This impressive study strongly suggests that taking a combination of vitamin D, a multivitamin and omega-3 fatty acids can both reduce your risk of becoming diabetic and even reverse high blood sugar back to normal.
