acupuncture reduces wrinkles

Wrinkles can be caused by environmental and lifestyle factors. They are also a normal part of aging. People have been tempted to try all kinds of remedies, but there is a safe, traditional approach that really might help.

In addition to free radical damage that can come from smoking, poor diet, sun exposure and pollution, wrinkles are also a normal part of aging: over time, collagen loses its ability to hold its shape and your skin loses its elasticity, and glands that secret mosturizing oils become exhausted.

The ancient healing approach of acupuncture may be an effective way to help treat those inevitable wrinkles.

An uncontrolled study included 27 women between the ages of 40 and 59. The women were rated as stage 3 on a 4 stage scale of photoaging and wrinkles. The women received 5 acupuncture treatments over a 3 week period. There was a significant improvement (Evid Based Complement Alternat Med 2013;2013: 424313).

A 1996 report in the International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture reported that among 300 cases treated in China with cosmetic facial acupuncture, 90% had marked effects with one course of treatment, including improvement in skin texture, colouring, elasticity and reduction of wrinkles (EJOM 5.5). Though benefit is usually seen after one treatment, maximum results occur over a series of treatments.

In previous blogs, we have written about lots of other powers of acupuncture:

pain, acute pain, chronic back pain, neck  pain
