rhodiola helps cognition, attention and mental speed

This little discussed, exotic herb can relax you and energize you at the same time. It may also be able to make you smarter!

Don’t get too excited because the study was not placebo controlled, so it awaits a better designed study to confirm it. But it is not the first study to show that rhodiola can support cognition: earlier research has shown that it can improve mental fatigue and boost exam marks.

Rhodiola can actually help you mentally in many ways. It quite quickly helps “stress related conditions,” according to a review of the literature. It soothes anxiety, stress and anger. It also helps people suffering from “burnout.”

The new study gave 50 adults 200mg of rhodiola extract twice a day for 12 weeks. The herb improved attention and improved mental speed and “mental resources.”

This study adds to the growing body of evidence for the many uses of Rhodiola rosea.
