vitamin D deceases weight and waist circumference

Vitamin D builds bones, and it fights cancer. But, it might also help you to lose weight.

When 400 adults who had vitamin D deficiencies and who were either overweight or obese were put on a moderately low calorie diet and were given either a placebo or 25,000 IU or 100,000 IU of vitamin D a month, compared to the placebo group, both vitamin D groups significantly dropped their weight and shrunk their waist circumference.

While the placebo group lost 1.2kg on the low calorie diet, the group given 25,000 IU of vitamin D lost 3.8kg and the group given 100,000 IU lost 5.5kg. Waist circumference shrunk by 3.21cm in the placebo group but by 4cm in the 25,000 IU vitamin D group and by 5.48cm in the 100,000 IU vitamin D group. These results show that the diet worked, but the addition of vitamin D made it work significantly better.
